Information to parents

MovieStarPlanet is a great game and community for children to have fun, be creative and make friends. You can read all about it here.

The safety of our users is our highest priority at MovieStarPlanet. You can read more about how we keep the game safe here.

At MovieStarPlanet we strongly encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in promoting online safety. Please talk to your children about how to remain safe and how to behave online. We must all be vigilant when children are online, just as we are when they are on the street. We need to make sure that they are protected from people who may pose a risk. Online, children can be exposed to unwanted, illegal or inappropriate content, but there are certain steps that you and your child can take to avoid the risk of something unpleasant happening.

  • Discuss how the Internet will be used in your home. Make sure children understand what information to keep private (names, phone number, address, etc.). Set up some rules for how to meet new people online. Given the nature of the Internet, we can never be sure who is on the other end.
  • Explain to your child the importance of keeping their password safe - and not using the same password for too many things. The password is like a key to a house. Inform children that someone might try to make them reveal their password, often done by promising gifts or other items, or by claiming to have certain authority (such as working for MovieStarPlanet). Should your child's password be revealed, please change the password immediately.
  • Ensure your Internet connection is secure and that only your family has access to it. You are responsible for what happens on your computer (IP address). MovieStarPlanet has the authority to ban your IP address, even if it was a guest at your house who broke the rules.
  • Install anti-virus software and Parental Control functions on all computers, cell phones and game consoles in order to block inappropriate content. No Parental Control is 100% secure, so never rely on the system to protect your child. We do all that we can to keep the site safe, but remember that perfection does not exist online. When it comes to the safety of your child we go out of our way to provide a secure environment. Safety is a partnership between parents/guardians and MovieStarPlanet.
  • You and your child should know how to report another user on MovieStarPlanet. Reports should be made the instant the abuse/behaviour takes place. Go to the Help section on the front page to see how you report another user or report inappropriate content.

Picture Sharing Safety

The picture sharing feature within MovieStarPlanet allows users to express themselves and their preferences by sharing images with their friends. We believe this feature is a fun way of incorporating their hobbies, idols and inspirations within the MovieStarPlanet universe. In order to make this feature as safe as possible, we have developed and implemented an extensive list of guidelines to ensure all uploaded content meets our standards. This includes pre-upload moderation of all images submitted for approval, which means that every single image shared by a user will be seen and approved by an adult human moderator before it can be seen on the user's MSP profile. The moderator is able to either approve or reject an image based on clearly defined rules set by the Head of Safety at MovieStarPlanet. Moreover, the shared images will be available for viewing by the user and their friends only.

Rules for Picture Sharing

Before users start using the picture share tool on their mobiles and tablets, the rules of this feature are communicated to them, so that they are made aware of what is acceptable imagery to post on MovieStarPlanet. The user's image will be deleted if it contains any the following:

  • Sexual Content: Nudity and Partial Nudity (including pictures of users or others in underwear or bathing suits), Sexually Provocative Images, Sexting activity or references to sex
  • Hate or hate crimes: Racism, Anti-Semitism, religious intolerance, LGBT related hate, sexism and other unacceptable behaviour
  • Violence: Threats, Actual, Offensive Gestures or Language
  • Personal Identifiable Information: Names and Address, Tel. Number, e-mail etc., on clothing attire or as collateral information in background of image
  • Cyberbullying: Images that portray users in a humiliating or demeaning way
  • Cigarettes or reference to smoking: No images that portray children smoking or indicate that smoking is cool
  • Alcohol or reference to alcohol: No images with alcohol
  • Contain drugs, drug paraphernalia, or drug use: No images related to drug use
  • Any invitations to meet online or offline will not be tolerated: e.g. should we meet, have you got Skype KIK, do you want to have sex, send me some images of yourself

This list will constantly be checked and updated by our Safety and Support staff, to make sure it encompasses all relevant areas of safety considerations at all times. The person sharing a photo must first get a permission before sharing a photo of someone else.  If a user repeatedly breaks any of the rules set out, they risk being banned, as we do not tolerate inappropriate behavior. They will be notified when their picture has not been approved by the moderators.

Recommendation for parents

In all instances, we recommend that parents take an active role when educating children about online safety. When it comes to picture sharing, we suggest parents have an open dialogue about what is acceptable to share online and any potential risks associated with this.
